Education meeting discussion

Connecting our people through language, culture, news, and entertainment.

The Kakuwa Community Virtual Radio Project aims to establish an online community radio service that connects Kakuwa people at home and in the diaspora. The platform will promote our cultural heritage, share community news, and create a space for learning, dialogue, and entertainment.

With a total funding requirement of USD 1,750, the project seeks to bring Kakuwa voices and stories to audiences through accessible digital broadcasting.

Promoting Our Language and Culture

The radio will promote Kakuwa literacy (Kutu na Kakuwa), music (wirito), and values (logwiari lika). Planned programmes will support language learning, storytelling, cultural discussions, and the sharing of knowledge between elders and younger generations.

Through these programmes, the station aims to preserve our oral traditions, celebrate local talent, and help young people—including those growing up in the diaspora—maintain a meaningful connection with their roots.

Information and Entertainment for Our People

The station will seek to keep listeners informed through daily news, community announcements, and updates from sub-communities and diaspora associations. Responsible reporting and verification will guide news programming to build trust and provide useful information.

Music, dramas, and comedies will offer entertainment while creating opportunities for Kakuwa artists and performers to reach wider audiences. Discussions on education, livelihoods, health awareness, and peaceful coexistence will further support community learning and well-being.

Progress and Next Steps

Stage one of registration has been completed, and the station is currently being tested using Auto DJ, which allows scheduled audio content to play automatically.

Further work is needed to complete outstanding registration requirements, develop a radio application, and acquire the devices necessary for full operation. The next phase will also focus on preparing programmes and organising the people and processes needed to deliver a reliable community radio service.

Help Bring Our Community Radio to Life

We invite community members, partners, and well-wishers to contribute towards the USD 1,750 project budget. Support through funding, suitable equipment, application development, technical expertise, and programme content will help move the station from testing to full operation.

Musicians, storytellers, educators, elders, and young creatives are also encouraged to contribute their talents.

Together, we can build a shared voice that celebrates Kakuwa culture, informs our people, and connects generations across borders.
