Education meeting discussion

One people, one heritage, one shared voice.

The Kakuwa Community Anthem Development Project aims to create a unifying anthem that expresses our identity, honours our heritage, and inspires pride across generations. Guided by the directives of Community Chairman Dada Isaac Lemi, the initiative is spearheaded by our son Mawa, commonly known as Colonel Mido.

Rooted in our values, ancestral land, and unity of purpose, the anthem will celebrate the bonds that connect Kakuwa people in South Sudan and around the world. It will honour the wisdom of our elders, recognise the contributions of past generations, and reflect our shared responsibility to build a peaceful and hopeful future.

Our Heritage, Our Voice

The anthem’s development will seek to capture the principles that guide our community: respect, solidarity, dignity, peaceful coexistence, and commitment to the common good. Its message will express our connection to ancestral land and our responsibility to preserve our cultural heritage for future generations.

Through meaningful lyrics and a memorable melody, the project aims to create an anthem that people of different ages can learn, sing, and embrace. It will encourage young people to appreciate their roots and recognise their role in carrying our traditions forward.

Developing an Anthem Together

Community participation will be essential to creating an anthem that reflects our collective identity. The development process should draw on the knowledge of elders, cultural practitioners, musicians, women, and young people to inform its language, meaning, and musical expression.

Proposed lyrics and melodies will provide a basis for consultation and refinement before an official version is adopted. Once finalised, the anthem is intended to bring a shared voice to community gatherings, cultural celebrations, and other significant occasions.

Be Part of Our Shared Voice

With a total proposed budget of USD 2,500, the project will support community consultations, anthem composition, and recording to bring our shared voice to life.

We invite community members, partners, and well-wishers to contribute financial support, cultural knowledge, ideas, and musical expertise towards developing an anthem that reflects our identity and aspirations.

Together, let us create an anthem that honours our ancestors, celebrates our belonging, and inspires unity of purpose for generations to come.
