Creating a home for community leadership, coordination, and service.
A dedicated community headquarters is essential for bringing people together, strengthening leadership, and delivering reliable services. For several decades, the Kakuwa Community has operated without an established office presence in Juba, limiting access to a central place for community coordination and engagement.
To address this longstanding need, the leadership has prioritised acquiring land and establishing offices to host the community headquarters temporarily in Juba, as guided by the Community Constitution. This urgent initiative will provide a recognised place where members can access leadership, seek information, and participate in community affairs.
A Centre for Community Service
The proposed offices will provide a working base for the leadership and secretariat to manage daily activities, coordinate programmes, and respond to members’ needs. They will serve as a contact point for Kakuwa sub-communities, diaspora associations, government institutions, development partners, and well-wishers.
The headquarters will support:
- Community administration: Organising meetings, correspondence, membership information, and official records.
- Programme coordination: Planning and monitoring initiatives in culture, education, livelihoods, peacebuilding, and community welfare.
- Member engagement: Providing a place for consultations, enquiries, and dialogue with community leaders.
- Partnership development: Hosting discussions with institutions and partners supporting community priorities.
- Heritage documentation: Safeguarding community records, historical materials, and cultural publications.
- Youth and women’s participation: Providing space for planning, mentorship, and engagement in community initiatives.
Stronger Coordination and Accountability
An established office will make community leadership more accessible and improve continuity as leaders change over time. Secure recordkeeping and regular administrative support will strengthen institutional memory, accountability, and the follow-up of community decisions.
The offices will also help connect activities in Juba with priorities across Kakuwa communities, supporting more consistent communication and coordinated action.
Funding and Implementation
The proposed budget of USD 48,000 will support land acquisition and the construction of offices. Implementation will require verification of land ownership and documentation, appropriate approvals, and construction planning within the available resources. Clear arrangements for community ownership, management, and maintenance will help protect this shared investment.
Help Establish Our Community Headquarters
We call upon community members, diaspora associations, partners, and well-wishers to support this urgent initiative through financial contributions, building materials, professional services, or construction expertise.
Together, we can establish a dependable centre for community service, strengthen our institutions, and create a shared asset for generations to come.
