Bringing Peace in Pieces—Building Lasting Peace Together

The Kakuwa Community Association is proposing the Community Dialogue and Peace Conference (CDPC), a community-led initiative to strengthen reconciliation, social cohesion, and peaceful coexistence across Yei River, Morobo, and Lainya counties in South Sudan.

The initiative will create inclusive spaces for communities to address land disputes, internal divisions, displacement, and shared-resource challenges. It seeks to engage government at all levels, traditional and religious leaders, women, youth, persons with disabilities, neighboring communities, and peacebuilding partners.

The project will unfold in two phases:

  • Nine Payam Peace Dialogues: Each three-day dialogue will bring together approximately 500 participants to identify local conflict drivers, develop practical solutions, and endorse community-owned resolutions.
  • A Community Peace Conference in Yei: A three-day gathering targeting over 5,000 participants will bring the local resolutions together into a proposed Kakuwa Community Peace and Coexistence Charter. Refugee and internally displaced representatives, alongside neighboring communities, will contribute their priorities for peaceful coexistence and safe return.

Led by the Kakuwa Community Peace Steering Committee, the initiative aims to strengthen local mediation, rebuild trust, and establish a permanent secretariat to coordinate follow-up and monitor commitments.

With a total proposed budget of USD 80,300, including project management costs, the initiative seeks financial and technical support to turn community dialogue into sustained action for peace.
